How to apply blush properly
The way you contour your cheeks can have a significant impact on the overall look, so you have to be really careful.
When I didn’t know how to apply it correctly, I usually added it in the wrong areas and used the wrong quantities. Even now, when I don’t apply my make-up in a room with enough natural light, I sometimes add too much and end up looking like I just came from jogging or I had one too many drinks…
Due to poor blending of the blush, girls look like they have just been slapped, like below:

There are 3 simple steps to follow:
-
Contouring: Make a fish face. I am not kidding, you have to do that in order to see the line you have to work with (It is just under the cheekbones). Take a little bit of bronzing powder/ darker shade of foundation and apply a thin line. Make sure you blend it out just enough so that it will look natural, you don't want to mimic Rambo.
-
Applying the blush: Starting from the line of bronzer, apply the blush with soft swipes going upwards. If you are targeting a fresh look, forget about the contouring and just smile. While you are smiling, apply a small amount of soft pink/ peach blush on the apple of your cheeks.
-
Highlight: Be careful on how much you put on because it might look like your face is really oily and can give the impression of an unkempt appearance. I always apply a small quantity on the top of my cheeks and blend it out towards the temples(L shape).
Below you can see the way you can apply the blush so that your face will look symmetrical.

I found a lovely site that explains which blush type is better for your skin and how to apply it considering your face shape, here.
I hope this helped you.
Have a great day!
Cris :)
